Technical assistance is provided for the following:
• Improving disposition reporting rates, particularly court dispositions
and arrests;
• Implementing procedures that enable a state to serve as a Point of
Contact between firearms dealers and the National Instant Criminal
Background Check System (NICS);
• Developing and implementing flagging procedures to help identify felony records,
convictions for crimes involving children, etc., for
purposes of firearm presale and pre-employment checks.
• Implementing automated fingerprint identification systems (AFIS) and
livescan technologies to support NICS;
• Reviewing legal and policy issues in the event that some state
statutes, regulations or policies may have to be reconciled to the federal
requirements;
• Participating in the Interstate Identification Index (III); and
• Implementing the model electronic, interstate rap sheet.
